The single most useful thing you can do is back up, if the machine still lets you.
- Back up anything irreplaceable to a drive or cloud storage if the computer still works
- Bring the charger, because we cannot test a laptop without one
- Know your Windows or Mac login password
- Tell us if it was dropped, or if liquid was spilled on it
- Tell us what you were doing when the problem started

Diagnosis happens before any repair work, and you get the price once we know what is actually wrong, not before. There is no separate fee sprung on you after the fact — the number we quote at drop-off is the number that applies.
Not without you knowing. We do not wipe a drive without telling you first, and a reset or a wipe is always discussed before it happens. If the drive itself has failed, we will tell you honestly what the recovery odds look like.
A rough rule: if the repair costs more than about half of a replacement machine that is meaningfully better, buying new usually makes more sense. We will tell you when that is the case rather than sell you a repair.
