A laptop that will not turn on can be the charger, the port, the battery or the board. Those are four very different prices, so we find out which before we tell you a number.

On older laptops we will tell you honestly whether the repair is worth it against what the machine is worth.
Step three
We repair and test
Repairs are done here. We test properly before returning it, including under load where heat is the issue.
Upgrades worth considering
- Replacing a mechanical hard drive with an SSD is the single biggest speed improvement on an older laptop
- Adding memory helps machines that slow down with several programs open
- A cleanout and new thermal paste often fixes overheating and fan noise
- A new battery makes an otherwise healthy laptop portable again
Before you bring your laptop in
- Back up anything irreplaceable if the laptop still starts
- Bring the charger, since we cannot test without it
- Know your login password
- Tell us about any drop or spill, even if it seemed fine afterwards

Questions about this repair
Yes. Liquid damage is progressive and corrosion continues under the board long after the machine seems fine. Power it off, do not charge it, and bring it in sooner rather than later.
Often, yes. Hinges tear the plastic around the mount as they fail, so getting it seen early is usually cheaper than waiting until the screen and case are both damaged.
It depends on the model and the age. We give you the screen price and let you weigh it against the machine. On many laptops it is very much worth doing.
Usually, and often dramatically. An SSD and a memory upgrade make a noticeable difference on many machines that are five or six years old. We will tell you the cost so you can weigh it against a replacement.
