How we handle a screen job
Step one
We confirm it is the screen
A blank laptop display can be the panel, the cable, the backlight or the graphics hardware. We test against an external monitor first, because that tells us a great deal immediately.
Step two
We source the right panel
Laptop panels are model specific and there are often several variants of the same model. Getting this right is most of the job.
Step three
We fit and test it
Fitted, checked for dead pixels and backlight consistency, and tested through a full open and close cycle.
Before you assume the screen is broken
- Plug the laptop into an external monitor or a TV with an HDMI cable
- If the external picture is perfect, the problem is the screen, the cable or the backlight
- If the external picture is also wrong, the fault is elsewhere in the machine
- Either way, that one test saves time and narrows the cost enormously

- Bring the charger
- Back up your files if the machine still starts and you can see enough to do it
- Tell us the exact model, which is usually on a label underneath
