A desktop that will not turn on could be the power supply, the motherboard, a loose connection, or something else entirely. We test the machine rather than replace parts by guesswork.

Desktop parts are often more affordable to replace individually than laptop parts. We give you the honest comparison against a new or refurbished machine.
Step three
We repair, upgrade and test
Fixed or upgraded here, then run under real conditions before it goes back to you, not just powered on and handed over.
Upgrades worth considering on an older desktop
- Replacing a mechanical hard drive with an SSD is the single biggest speed improvement available
- Adding memory helps machines that slow down with several programs open
- A dust cleanout and fresh thermal paste often fixes overheating, noise and random shutdowns
- A power supply replacement is sometimes cheaper than diagnosing an intermittent fault the hard way
Before you bring a desktop in
Desktops are bulkier than a laptop, so a little preparation helps.
- Back up anything irreplaceable if the machine still starts
- Bring the power cable
- Know your Windows login password
- Tell us if it was recently moved, cleaned, or had parts added before the problem started
- You do not need to bring the monitor, keyboard or mouse unless we ask

Most often the power supply, the wall outlet or power strip, or a loose internal connection. Occasionally the motherboard. We test to find out which before quoting anything.
