Phone batteries wear out. It is not a fault, it is chemistry, and after a couple of years of daily charging the battery simply cannot hold what it used to. The phone is usually fine. The battery is the part that aged.

A swollen battery is urgent
- If the screen or back panel is lifting away from the frame, stop charging the phone
- Do not press the panel back down and do not puncture it
- Keep it away from heat and out of a pocket
- Bring it in as soon as you reasonably can
